The team at Pier 36 in Donaghadee was celebrating recently after the venue collected two titles during the Pub of the Year Awards in the City Hall, Belfast.
Pier 36 collected the overall Pub of the Year award and it was named Best Tourism/Visitor Pub at the event, organised by trade body, Pubs of Ulster.
“I’m just delighted and very much surprised,” Lewis Waterworth, one of the venue’s owners, told GO. “You don’t come along to these things expecting to win.”
This is the second time that Pier 36 has collected the top title – it was named Pub of the Year first in 2006. It was also named Pub of the Year in 2004 by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and it won that organisation’s Taste of NI accolade in 2009.
“It’s really a great endorsement,” added Lewis. “We’re very much a team effort here and we’ve invested a huge amount in staff training, so it’s very nice for me to be able to let the staff know that there’s a reward at the end of it all.”
