The incredible Ellie Goulding is one of British pop music’s most talented and versatile stars, making her debut at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall next April. GO caught up with the singing sensation to hear the low down on her new album, tour and Twilight…
Ellie has sold 1.6 million albums and more than six million tracks worldwide, including the US triple-platinum single Lights, which was from debut studio album that she released in 2010. The album debuted at number one in the UK Albums Chart and has sold over 850,000 copies in the UK.
The ethereal pop of debut album Lights was followed by a beautiful cover of Elton John’s Your Song, which reached number two in the UK in December 2010, and on 29th April 2011; Ellie performed the song at the wedding reception of Prince William and Kate Middleton at Buckingham Palace.
The second album Halcyon was released in October and is a real step up for Ellie with back-to-back electro-pop tracks and stylish vocals, which has surprised fans. The album has won rave reviews both here and in the US thanks to its darker, dancier feel – it even sees the star try her hand at dubstep and pull it off in style.
With new single Figure 8 and a UK tour imminent, as well as a hand in the Twilight hysteria thanks to her song Bittersweet being chosen for the final film’s soundtrack, it’s a wonder Ellie had time to talk to us…but she did.
